30th Annual Salsa Festival

Let me start by asking: what is the greatest condiment in the world?

If you said anything besides salsa I have to kindly tell you that you are wrong.

Living in the Southwest we have developed quite the taste for things that contain jalapeños, cumin, coriander, lime, cilantro, and any combination of the aforementioned spices. This is why the annual My Nana’s Best Tasting Salsa Challenge is such a great date for us!

Plus there’s all the “hot” puns the world can muster, so that definitely adds to the fun.

My Nana's Salsa Festival

Basically you enter a park and there are tents everywhere with any kind of salsa you could dream of! There’s tons of traditional stuff with a variety of ingredients and spice levels. But, we also had mango salsa, strawberry salsa, cucumber salsa, cinnamon honey salsa, avocado salsa, and many varieties of tomatillo salsa- a personal favorite.

I watched this man down the samples as fast as they could shell them out! He also went through four bags of chips- oh to be 6’1 with a metabolism of steel!

The other great part of this is that we ran into some of our friends that we constantly talk about doubling with, and just never seem to get around to it. Brittney and Jesse are such cool people, and offer a lot of fashion advice for men and women on their blog. We loved seeing them, catching up, and snapping some pics!

Unique Date Idea- Salsa tasting festival

When we’d made our lap around the entire park Jacob remarked that his tray felt heavy. I laughed when I looked down, he didn’t throw away a single cup while tasting, he just kept adding to the pile.

This is a sign of success- the man ate all these, and I only saw his eyes water and nose run once!

Such a lovely date, local festivals really are the best- particularly when they produce a smile like this!

This is seriously my favorite Arizona event of the year. We have gone for at least the last 8 years. Actually, I am posting next week about where to get the best chips and salsa in Arizona as well as this festival and a couple more salsa festivals. Chips and salsa are basically my favorite thing 🙂 ~Marily

  2. You could totally fill up on mild only- it would still be worth your $ 🙂

I didn't even know this was happening! Although, I probably wouldn't have done very well for myself considering I'm such a weenie when it comes to spicy things! If this were a festival for pico de gallo, I could totes handle that, but spicy salsa may end badly! Hahaha

I'm really sad I missed this. Salsa is my favorite.
