Big Announcement! Remember That Big Thing We’ve Been Saving For?
At Christmas time I shared on Instagram that Jacob and I weren’t planning to gift much to one another. We were saving our money for something big coming in 2020.
I didn’t think much of it, but I don’t think I’ve ever had more people ask me what big thing we were saving for. Instantly there were hundreds of questions. I decided to throw up a question box asking people to guess and let me tell you the top three guesses what we were saving our pennies for.
- We’re moving
- A new baby
- A huge #whitingsusetheirpassports trip
And I’m sorry for anyone hoping I’d be throwing up this year, but a baby isn’t the answer. We are hoping to fit in a big trip this year, but we’re going to have to see if that’s in the cards. Luckily Disneyland is, thank you discount Disney tickets and a great sale last week!
So that leaves us to the last one- are you moving? And although I want to say no, there may be a week we are going to need to move out of our house. Because the big exciting announcement of 2020 is….
WE’RE REMODELING!
Home Remodel
We bought our home four and a half years ago, and we were so pleased with the location, the bones, and the potential. I don’t know that we’re in our forever home, but at the same time, it wouldn’t surprise me! Anything can happen with jobs and opportunities, and we’re adventurous people. But we love where we live, and we’re ready to make things feel more like us.
After years of living here, we’ve had a running list of items that needed to be updated. Our home was built in the 90s and was clearly loved and cared for by most of the families who lived in it. But many things have worn down and have been updated to their max potential.
And, if I’m being honest, I wasn’t 100% sure what my style was or what I really wanted. I know a lot of people have the mentality to make it work for now and keep their home a forever project. I also know many decide to just get it done and enjoy living in a house put together. And as much as I admire these people, I am definitely not one of them.
I like to really research and think through what I want. Jacob and I are firm believers in saving money and paying cash for updates. That also means we’re a little on the cheap side when we’re waiting to have the funding for what we’d like. We’ve been saving since we moved in, and this year inspiration struck and we knew what we’d like to do.
I’ve been okay living in “good enough” or a less than Instagram perfect space. But I’m so excited to change our house into our actual home with spaces that feel like us.
What Are We Planning to Update?
Will there be dramatic changes? How much are we remodeling? Because I could write a small novel, I’m going to hold off and share details, plans, and timelines in tomorrow’s post.
But for now, I wanted to share why some Instagram stories may look like we’re in a construction zone. The answer: because we’re about to live in a construction zone!
I can’t wait to bring you along for our ride and journey! It’s not something you do every day (or even more than once in a lifetime) and it’s going to be a fun chapter in our lives!
