If you’ve been reading our blog for a while you have an idea about my love for Vincent Van Gogh. You’re also probably aware that we painted Starry Night at The Art of Merlot last April. It was one of our most favorite dates of all time! When another Groupon showed up we couldn’t help but go back and try our hand at another Van Gogh in July, this time Van Gogh’s Cafe was painted. In this post I talked about the process, and just how in love with The Art of Merlot we are.
Naturally, when a 3rd Groupon came up this spring, we just couldn’t say no! We’ve decided we’ll probably do every painting they offer and never tire of this date. Not to mention I have big plans to decorate our guest room with Van Gogh paintings, so this is a good excuse to kill two birds with one stone. (Yes, that’s my justification, even if it’s weak!)
This time we registered to paint Starry Night Over the Rhone. A personal favorite, and one we knew would teach us blending skills.
So if you haven’t seen our other posts, here’s the drill:
An instructor walks you through turning your blank canvas into a masterpiece.
You trace the main elements onto your canvas before you paint.
Then you are walked through each piece of the painting and shown how to blend colors and which elements to do in which order. However, they encourage creativity the whole time, so you’re more than welcome to get artistic and stray as far as you want from the instruction. We both felt a little more comfortable this time, and did just that!
And before you know it, you have a masterpiece!
(Jacob’s left, Camille’s right)
No two artists paintings look alike!
Should you really want to clinch this as the perfect date, you can always walk up the street in Old Town Scottsdale to Gelato Spot and share Gelato for two!
