Pregnancy Update: 12 Weeks
Just playing catch up for a few days here, don’t mind me posting the previous weeks updates until I catch up to the current week!

Feeling: I jinxed myself last week, this one brought a few queasy days. I have a lot of love and sympathy for those who feel sick for the long haul. I’ve had so many medications do that for months, and I’ve enjoyed not having it too bad this time around with the real hormones! This week I had a hard time eating, sleeping, and sitting upright a few days. Thank heaven for a job that lets us work from home! Lots of dry heaving and 48 hours later, and I was back to feeling better. Once again, lesson learned. Baby needs carbs and protein and my normal diet that’s mostly veggies isn’t okay right now. I think I set everything off by a green smoothie and salad without protein day without much to snack on. By night the headache and the nausea was overbearing. I get it now child, I will eat what you tell me to (within reason) and try to remember paleo isn’t your thing right now.
Body Changes:
I heard week 12 is the week your body pops- the uterus moves up and you start to show. I feel like this definitely happened. We took anniversary pictures this weekend and one of the outfits I had ready to go just wasn’t working the same as I thought it would only one week ago. I’m in fit-and-flair dresses and oversized structured tunics for the next two weeks for sure until I make the big announcement. After I uploaded this pic I realized I probably should wear something that doesn’t hide the progress. Here’s to next week when I take a pic!
No weight gain this week, as crazy as that sounds. I’m actually down a half lb from last week. Maybe that day of veggies and sickness curbed my eating? Maybe there was a lot of water weight before? Maybe bodies are just weird and fluctuate a lot, even when pregnant. Sticking with the mentality I’ve always had, keep an eye out but your weight really isn’t a big deal as long as you feel healthy.
Sleeping: I swore I would never buy one of the body pillows. They seemed big, bulky, and another expense/item to buy for not much of a reason. After last week in a moment of weakness I caved and announced to Jacob that even though we said no anniversary gifts, I’d purchased myself a Snoogle Total Body Pillow. Silly name, AMAZING product! I’m sleeping more on my side, my sciatic nerve pain has been going away, and I’m sleeping through the night with only one wake up to use the bathroom. If you’re pregnant and even a few weeks along I so recommend this. It’s been a life saver for me!
Fitness: I’m still running a few times a week, still fitting in pilates, and I’m slowing down a little on the HIIT. I’m going for walks the days I ache or running doesn’t feel great, but for the most part I’m loving this and plan to stay fit the whole pregnancy!
Craving: Oh my potatoes! Baked potatoes always sound good, fries, and hash browns have been wanted daily. Growing up my family made this dutch oven “mountain man” breakfast that is essentially hash browns with scrambled eggs mixed together every time we went camping. I’m dreaming of it daily. Let’s just say I’ve had an entire pack of hash browns and almost two dozen eggs this week by myself. It’s okay though, carbs+protein, so baby is thrilled with this meal.
When I’m out and about Chick-Fil-A nuggets and fries always sound good.
Baby Updates: Disclaimer: I’ve always hated reading updates where the person talks about losing weight, looking better, feeling great, and all these extra perks they get that aren’t normal for the majority of the population. I feel like pregnancy is so hard for so many people, so in fear that I’m going to sound like those I’ve cringed at before, please take this one with a grain of salt. I know I’m lucky!
I have an extra perk I know hardly anyone gets. My sister-in-law is an ultrasound tech for an OB. It’s not the doctor I’m going to see, but it’s one I saw when I started the fertility journey years ago. The office is totally cool with her sneaking in family before the other patients arrive, and we discovered we can squeeze me in before work for a peek just for fun. I know, don’t hate me people who see their kid twice. I’ve already seen mine lots with fertility monitoring, and this is just an added bonus that I can go in whenever she’s working if our schedules match up and take a peek. So with my guilt-ridden confession, let me tell you about the actual update.
Baby looks like a baby for the first time! I haven’t seen it in three weeks, and it’s incredible how much change happens from 9-12 weeks! It looked like a person, it was flailing arms and legs, it was bouncing off the walls quite literally. My kid is super hyper already, and I don’t think anyone we’ve told has been surprised to hear this. We had a hard time getting the heart rate because baby was so crazy moving. On the forth attempt we think it was 150, but that’s a bit of guess since such a small sampling was had. I just fell in love with this little person and it felt real for the first time. It reacted to my voice, to being poked, it jumped on my uterus like a tramp the whole time. It looked like it was sucking on its thumb. It was really the cutest thing and amazing to me- it just got fingers last week!
I’m such a planner we will definitely find out the gender and we even went in with hopes for an early guess. No such luck, the umbilical cord was blocking the area. She did make a guess based on some other things. I honestly mean it when I say we’ll be so happy with either gender, but I was a little shocked to hear on the first guess that it isn’t what I thought it would be. I have to admit I was a little sad when I got home too. I have told myself I’ll be fine either way, I’m grateful to have it, but this week I learned I do have an opinion and I would like one gender first. According to my SIL weeks 13-14 are no good for guessing because the development makes either gender look like a girl at one point, or swell and look like a boy at another. You can think two different things just days apart. I think the jury is still out and I’m not settled that it’s the first guess- but who knows?
We are planning a 15 week check again though so we can know sooner than later. We’re pretty excited that we get to tell everyone we’re pregnant and then reveal the gender pretty shortly after!

When I was pregnant with Gwen, our hearts were set on a boy. I had a feeling she might be a girl (weird dreams) and when the ultrasound tech told us her sex I was like “…oh…cool.” Haha. I felt sad about it and sooooo guilty for being sad about it!
We're obviously over it now.
I got the Snoogle body pillow at 12 weeks too and it was a game changer! Every person who is pregnant needs to have one.
I had an ultrasound at 12 weeks with my last baby and it was my favorite ultrasound! Baby was moving a bunch and then eventually he stuck his hands by his face and seemed to suck his thumb, then he totally fell asleep. I loved seeing his little personality so early. I fell so deeply in love with him and felt an amazing bond at that ultrasound. What a miracle babies are ♡♡♡♡ congratulations! Can't wait to see the gender reveal!

A PLUM! That seems so big for 12 weeks! Baby is growing so fast and you look beautiful!
I love this and am so excited for you! And I remember totally craving fries and steak! It was all I could do to not ask Jared if we could go out to eat every night…haha

I didn't have to start using a pillow until 2 weeks ago (week 35) so not really worth the extra purchase, but I've heard so many good things about the snuggle that I'd have to buy if we ever had another child!
My $10 Target body pillow has been my best friend through my entire pregnancy 🙂 I love it!
