How do I create colored pancakes?
Coloring pancakes is very easy! A simple drop or two of gel food coloring easily creates colored pancakes. Drop it in the middle and stir until fully incorporated.
Tips for coloring pancakes
A lot of complex recipes will encourage making several batches of batter to create rainbow pancakes. But I’d recommend making one large batch first and then dividing it. A simple drop of food coloring in each divided bowl makes creating colored pancakes much easier and less time-consuming!
Remember a classic rainbow consists of:
- Red
- Purple
- Blue
- Green
- Yellow
- Orange
You’ll want to use each of these colors to achieve the vibrant color in the pancakes.
St. Patrick’s Day Breakfast
Rainbow pancakes are fun all year long, but they’re extra fun for a St. Patrick’s Day breakfast! I like to make the pancake batter in advance and cook fresh rainbow pancakes for St. Patty’s day morning. Add some whipped cream and golden sprinkles and you’ll wow your kids with this fun breakfast!
Rainbow Pancakes FAQ
Use butter, cooking spray, or oil on your skillet or griddle to prevent sticking.
You can absolutely use your favorite pancake mix as a base. Prepare according to instructions and separate into small bowls to create the different colors of the rainbow in small batches.
These pancakes freeze quite well! I’d recommend cutting a square of parchment paper to place in between each of your fluffy pancakes to prevent sticking. Store them in a freezer bag or airtight container. You can pop a frozen pancake in the toaster for 1-2 minutes, or microwave for 30 seconds when you’re ready to heat and eat.
