The Velvet Top Trend
I was a little slow to jump into the velvet trend. Something about being a 90’s child and feeling like my mom was dressing me up for a holiday party had me scratching my head how I’d make this trend feel like mine without feeling like a child. I was loving it on other people. But, I didn’t dive head first in until one day I was searching for peplum tops (my favorite silhouette) on Amazon and this beauty popped up in my feed and rethink everything.
I was in love with the crushed velvet that looks a little more edgy with a little softer fabric, the mauve color that I knew would do my skin a few favors, the keyhole details to add even more interest to the peplum, and did I mention the price? $15 had me pretty ready to dive in and give it a try!
Velvet Top Outfit
Since the top is a statement piece in itself, I decided it was best to style it with a few minimal accessories like dainty earrings and a simple gold cuff bracelet. Also, I really wanted this top to work for more than just a formal date night. First of all, I figured a few edgy pieces would probably do the trick as I figured out how to style a velvet top for even the most casual of dates.
My favorite AG jeans (that fit amazing and have been worth every penny!) with distressing plus some black booties and a black leather watch did just the trick! Now that the nights are cooler I may even grab a leather jacket to add on top, and I think I’d still feel ready for the movies or a nice dinner.
Hooray for getting over my childhood ideals that this is only a holiday party fabric! Also for finding a shirt that made me a velvet trend convert! Consequently, I’m now fully on board the velvet top trend!
