We don’t typically share a lot of movies as date night ideas here, for a good reason. I always feel like it’s the date everyone knows about, and already does. Most people are looking for date ideas that they haven’t thought of yet when they’re ready to mix up date night.

The Avengers End Game Date Night

With that said, we still love a good movie, and the summer blockbuster season is the time we head to the movies for date night. We knew The Avengers End Game was set to be the big movie this summer. That’s kind of an understatement, it’s shattered all box office records and to-date is the biggest movie ever. So as far as going to the movies only two or three times a year for date night goes, we knew this one needed to happen!

I also knew that we’d only seen a handful of Avengers movies, and I started to panic that we’d be so lost heading to see End Game. We watched the original modern Avenger movie, Iron Man when we were dating. But between grad school, kids, and just life, we’ve missed a lot. Watching the Avengers Movies in order was something we would have loved to have done, but just missed.

Due to a new baby, we hadn’t even seen Infinity War. That’s one I’d argue you absolutely need to see before watching Avengers End Game. That’s when we realized a few movie nights at home were in order.

I looked up the Avengers movies, and prior to Avengers End Game, there are 21 movies with End Game rounding out 22. There will be more this summer, there will be more next year, and likely there will be forever. But as of right now, there are 22 Marvel movies to enjoy that all help build the plot and understanding to Avengers End Game.

I looked at Jacob with a few weeks to spare and decided we’d better watch the most crucial Avengers movies we’ve missed over the years. And suddenly it hit me, this is like the ultimate connecting date night that you can continue for half a year.

We could look at this list of Avengers Movies in Order and follow them one by one enjoying a movie a week.

Last week I published a post about making a date night ritual with a foodie taste-testing project: finding something you can repeat together. Like finding the best ice cream in your town, trying every taco, etc. Along the same lines, getting a list of the Avengers movies and enjoying one a week leading up to the Avengers End Game date night is such a fun ritual!

We didn’t have time to watch every movie before we went and saw End Game for date night this week. But we did fit in the most crucial movie, and prepared to enjoy a truly epic finish to The Infinity Saga.

Must See Movies Before End-Game:

1. Iron Man
2. Captain America
3. Guardians of the Galaxy
4. Ant Man
5. Avengers Infinity War (and the other Avengers movies are helpful too, but not crucial)

I think any others are icing on the cake, but I’d understand the backstory of the two lead characters. Also, Guardians of the Galaxy will introduce the space realm, the villain, and a few elements you may need to know.

Now, I’m feeling all the more motivated to go back and watch them all, week by week, as an at-home date night. Clearly, we love going out, but one night a week we’re home with kids in bed. I feel like this is such a fun project to work on together for an at-home date those nights in.

And best of all, these are movies you’ll want to talk about after. The plots are air-tight (for the most part). The acting is amazing. Instead of just watching and being done with the films, you’ll want to connect. Even if you aren’t the biggest moviegoers like us. Particularly if you aren’t the biggest action movie or superhero fans, I promise you’ll still enjoy the excellent writing, special effects, and acting in modern Marvel movies.

But if either of you are big Avengers fans, this is a date series that’s fun to start and fun to complete together. You can always tell your kids and grandkids about the biggest movie of your time, and how you prepared for it together.

And if you can know every detail before watching the culmination of all the movies to date in Avengers End Game, you’ll enjoy it even more!
