DuckTales Costume: Huey Dewey and Louie Costumes
How to make Huey Dewey and Louie costumes. Become the ultimate Disney trio with this DuckTales costume tutorial.
I would recommend singing the DuckTales theme song and make sure “Life is like a hurricane, here in Duck-burg” plays in your mind while you get inspiration for one of the easiest DIY DuckTales costumes that has such a great impact!
I go to Oogie Boogie Bash, aka the Halloween party at Disneyland, every year. It’s my favorite event! I’m lucky to not only make it happen with my family and find a fun family Disney costume to wear, but I also do a girls’ trip with two of my favorite Disney-loving friends on opening week. We are always a classic Disney trio, and we love to go all out with costumes!

Huey Dewey and Louie Costumes
Perhaps the ultimate Disney trio is Huey, Dewey, and Louie from DuckTales. Or at least they are the most infamous trouble-making group!
And Huey Dewey and Louie Halloween costumes are not only iconic, they’re so easy to pull together! And did I mention perfect to wear when it’s hot and you don’t want a huge costume, but also easy to layer if you do need some warmth?!

Everything you need to make a DIY Huey Dewey and Louie Costume
Duck Feet
Trust me, these made our costumes pop! We tried it with yellow sneakers, and nothing had the same big impact as the duck feet!
Grab some duck feet slippers, and cut out about 75% of the base in an oval shape. Leave the sides intact, and try to cut more lengthwise than width. Start with a straight line and shave it down to fit your shoes. You can always cut more, so start conservatively and shave off more as needed.
Place those feet on your ankles, put on your socks and shoes, and then pull them down to drape over the top of your shoes. You’ll be able to walk in comfort and look like a duck!
Yellow Legs
Yellow tights are hard to beat on this one! They cover the entire leg and give the perfect duck color. But you could alternate them with yellow knee socks, or go with yellow leggings.
White Duck Bottom
White shorts are actually perfect here. They look like duck feathers and are super comfy over your tights. A white skirt or skort could also work well to replicate duck legs.
Duck Tails – DIY
This is the one part we had to DIY. We bought some foam craft cushion from a craft store, and cut it with fabric scissors into a small duck tail shape to fit over our booties. We covered it with white fur fabric and attached the fabric to the foam using industrial glue sticks and fabric glue. Get a piece of elastic for the waistband, measure it to fit your body, and glue or use a large safety pin to attach the elastic to your foam base. And boom, you have a custom ducktail you can remove or add to your costume with ease!
Red, Blue, and Green Shirts
One of the best parts of being Huey, Dewey, or Louie is that you can make whatever type of shirt you want work for this, so long as they are the red, blue, and green shades of their shirts. And if you’re wondering, Huey is red for the bright hue. Dewey is blue and named after water. And Louie rocks the classic emerald green color.
I love these classic t-shirts as super comfortable options. If you want to get super close to their exact shirt cut, a 3/4 sleeve solid t-shirt is perfect. And in the modern DuckTales reboot, Huey wears a red polo shirt, Dewey wears a layered two-shirt combo with both long-sleeved and short-sleeved blue shirts, and Louie wears a solid green hoodie.
Solid Baseball Cap
These are easy to find and really solidify the costume! Get a solid colored baseball cap in your coordinating color that best matches your shirt.
Duck Nose
We found the costume really needed a duck nose to make it look like the character! An inexpensive rubber duck nose did the trick perfectly!

Other Characters for a DuckTales Costume
Scrooge McDuck
Uncle Scrooge is a classic character, and he’s a Halloween costume that’s easy to pull together! Go with the white shorts/or a white skirt base, wear yellow tights/socks/leggings, add the duck slippers, and you have the bottom half covered!
Modern Ducktales Uncle Scrooge wears a red overcoat that you can achieve with an actual coat, or make it easy and lightweight with a short red robe. Add a black shirt with a collar and rolled sleeves poking out to make it pop. Add in a black belt. If you add a tophat over a white wig for his tufts of hair, and some small round glasses, you’re set!
And if you want a classic Uncle Scrooge for your Scrooge McDuck costume, swap out a royal blue robe and a red shirt with a collar for his classic DuckTales look!
Donald Duck Costume
Donald is so popular that it’s easy to buy a ready-made Donald Duck costume! But you could also apply the duck costumes above and swap out the t-shirts and hats for a Donald sailor shirt and a sailor cap.
Webbie
Webbie is such a character in both the classic DuckTales and the modern version. Start with a pink button-down shirt. In the modern DuckTales, she wears a purple skirt and a blue sweater vest. In the classic, she’s a layered pink shirt with a pink skirt. And don’t forget her signature bow!
Della Duck, AKA, Huey Dewey and Louie’s Mom
Della made her debut in the modern DuckTales as an explorer who went missing. She’s chic, and a pilot outfit with a duck base works perfectly for her! And don’t forget to watch the classic episode “I could have been TURBO?!” for a Della Duck example and big laugh!
Launchpad
A loyal employee of McDuck Enterprises, Launchpad also serves as a loyal friend to the McDuck family. He makes a fun costume with an aviator jacket, aviator cap, khaki pants, and black duck feet. Don’t miss our aviator googles tutorial for an inexpensive way to pull off a Launchpad from DuckTales costume.
May this help inspire a fun ’90s throwback costume and may you have the DuckTales theme song in your head for weeks like we did!
