May the 4th Activities: Fun Things to Do on Star Wars Day
May the Fourth be with you this Star Wars day with these fun May the 4th activities you can do as a family!
We are big Star Wars fans in this family! Between my own childhood memories watching the original trilogy with my dad, to introducing my own boys and watching them take it to the next level, Star Wars is something we love in this family! Even my husband who didn’t grow up Star Wars has found a love through our Disneyland trips, and reading endless Star Wars books to our children.
While you’ll always find touches of Star Wars in our home (it’s our son’s bedroom theme!) and in our children’s t-shirts, we love to use Star Wars Day, May the 4th, as an excuse to lean into a little thematic fun and make some family memories. And we think you should too!
If you need a fun Star Wars family activity, or an idea to lean into the theme for the first time, here are a ton of fun ideas for May the 4th!
10 Fun Ways to Celebrate May the 4th with Kids
Host a Star Wars Movie Marathon
Nothing says May the 4th quite like watching the classics together!
Set up a cozy viewing area in your living room with blankets, pillows, and maybe even twinkling fairy lights to give it that galaxy-far-far-away feeling. Choose from the original trilogy, the prequels, or newer favorites like The Mandalorian or Star Wars: The Force Awakens—or mix and match!
We’d highly recommend Star Wars: Skeleton Crew for families with elementary-aged kids. It’s been our kids’ favorite series to date and it’s so fun to watch as a family!
To keep younger kids engaged, opt for LEGO Star Wars specials or Star Wars Rebels, which are action-packed but more kid-friendly. They are fun and less scary for little padawans!
Don’t forget the popcorn (bonus points if you call it “Yoda Puffs” or “Wookiee Crunch”).
Create Star Wars-Themed Crafts
Let your kids’ creativity awaken with Star Wars crafts!
Some simple and fun ideas include:
- Pool Noodle Lightsabers: Slice a pool noodle in half, wrap one end with silver duct tape, and decorate with black tape buttons for a safe, soft lightsaber. You can cut pool noodles in half to keep costs low and involve more kids in the fun.
- Paper Plate Millennium Falcon: Use grey paper plates, markers, and stickers to design your own spaceship.
- Yoda Ears/ Grogu Ears Headband: Cut green felt or construction paper into ear shapes and glue them to a headband.
Not only is crafting a fun activity for kids, but you’ll also have keepsakes to remember your May the 4th celebration!
Have a Lightsaber Duel
What kid (or adult) can resist an epic lightsaber battle?
If you’ve made your pool noodle lightsabers, it’s time to take them for a spin. Set some “Jedi rules” for safety (like no face hits) and maybe even create a backyard obstacle course where young Padawans can train and battle.
Consider playing John Williams’ iconic soundtrack in the background for an extra epic touch. You could even organize a friendly family tournament to see who earns the title of Jedi Master!
Whip Up Star Wars Snacks
Themed treats make everything more festive!
Here are some easy, crowd-pleasing ideas:
- Wookiee Cookies: Chewy chocolate chip cookies with a drizzle of melted chocolate or frosting to resemble Chewbacca’s fur and candy eyes.
- Lightsaber Pretzels: Dip pretzel rods in colored candy melts (red, blue, green) and wrap the base in foil for the handle.
- Yoda Soda: Lime sherbet mixed with lemon-lime soda makes a fizzy, green treat.
- Darth Vader Pancakes: Use a pancake mold or freehand some Vader helmet shapes to surprise kids at breakfast.
- Star Wars Pizza: decorate to look like a character, cut out tiny ships or Yodas in cheese or pepperoni, or make a Death Star outline with toppings for extra fun!
Cooking together doubles as quality time—and sampling your galactic goodies is half the fun!
Dress Up in Star Wars Costumes
Costumes bring instant excitement to any holiday!
Pull out Star Wars costumes your kids already have (think Rey, Kylo Ren, Grogu, or classic Leia buns).
We went all out with a family Jedi costume one Halloween, and our boys loved every chance to pull them out and wear them again.

Don’t have costumes? No problem! DIY versions are easy:
- Brown bathrobe and belt = instant Jedi.
- White dress + cinnamon bun hair = Princess Leia.
- Black shirt and cape = Darth Vader (add a paper mask!).
You could also take a family trip the thrift store and try to invent a costume based on a few inexpensive finds. It’s creative, and it’s a lot of fun!
If you’re up for it, join in on the dress-up fun too. Nothing delights kids more than seeing their grown-ups jump into character!
Read Star Wars Books Together
For a quieter moment in the day, snuggle up and dive into Star Wars stories.
We have a whole list of the Best Star Wars Books for Kids, from infant years to young adult readers.
Some great kid-friendly Star Wars books include:
- 5-Minute Star Wars Stories (perfect for short attention spans)
- Star Wars ABC-3PO (a Star Wars-themed alphabet book)
- Star Wars Little Golden Books (classic Star Wars tales simplified for young readers)
Reading together not only celebrates the day but also encourages a love of stories and imagination.

Have a Star Wars Scavenger Hunt
Plan a simple scavenger hunt with Star Wars-themed clues!
You can hide small Star Wars toys, LEGO minifigs, or print free Star Wars character cutouts around the house or yard. Each clue can reference famous Star Wars quotes or planets (“Find the next clue near Tatooine’s twin suns… aka the kitchen window!”).
End the hunt with a small prize like Star Wars stickers, glow sticks (lightsabers!), or a themed snack.
This activity gets kids moving and keeps their excitement sky-high!

Make Star Wars Music and Dance Party
Cue the cantina band!
Create a Star Wars playlist featuring movie soundtracks, fun Star Wars-themed remixes (there are plenty of clean, upbeat versions online), and have a dance party right in your living room.
You could even invent your own “Jedi dance moves” or “Droid shuffle” and challenge everyone to join in. Little ones especially will love shaking it like BB-8.
End the Day with Star Gazing and Star Wars Trivia
Wrap up your May the 4th festivities with a nod to the stars themselves.
Lay out some blankets in the backyard and stargaze together. You can talk about how Star Wars inspired imaginations about space or point out real constellations and wonder what galaxies they might be part of.
To keep the Star Wars magic going, play a round of Star Wars trivia! You can find free printable trivia online or make up your own based on what your family knows best.
It’s a calm, sweet way to end a day of galactic adventure.
Bonus Idea:
Go big and go to Disneyland or Disney World and spend the day at Galaxy’s Edge. Check out our favorite way to find Disney deals!
